Why

MyMCAT's philosophy is that becoming a doctor should be straightforward and fair. Every student should have an equal chance at success on the MCAT and paying for expensive resources such as preparation companies unfairly tip the balance towards people who can afford the help. The number of free resources available to study for the MCAT are sparse, poorly organized, and hard to find and so MyMCAT hopes to balance the inequality and give everyone a fair opportunity.

Background

The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), designed and administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges is required for admission into medicine by most schools and MyMCAT was designed specifically in assisting students with this test. There are numerous companies (kaplan, The Princeton Review, The Oxford Seminars) offering both web services and classroom courses to prepare for the MCAT, however all these companies are grossly overpriced.

MyMCAT

MyMCAT is designed to utilize the power of community development much like Wikipedia. However, because learning requires more than just reading, the project has been expanded to include personalized resources to assist your progress.

Resources

MyMCAT has a continually growing encyclopedia of review text for the MCAT as well as section tests and passage tests. At the present time we have not deployed our phase 2 enhancements (flashcards, games, and personal progress reports) as we are still currently trying to expand the review text and list of passages.

Can I make a donation

The only cost in running this website is in time and hosting fees. At the present time, we can afford the monthly hosting fees, so please save your money for something else. We suggest you use your money to buy official AAMC practice MCATs, buy a friend or tutor who has helped you a drink, or donate it to a worthy cause such as Canadian Blood Services.

Can I help

MyMCAT is a community project (just like Wikipedia), and as such, everyone is invited to expand this site. We ask, however, that if you wish to do so, please create an account and be logged in when creating new pages or tests so that we may better track everyone's contributions. This in turn will also aid us in providing you with proper acknowledgment should you wish to use us as a volunteer reference.
